Will the price of the PS5 go down? Sony responds

It seems Sony has no intention of cutting costs PlayStation 5 in the near future.

At this point in the generation, most fans are expecting a price cut for the PS5 since the console is almost four years old. However, Sony doesn't seem to have a plan in this regard.

As stated in Sony's latest financial briefing (via Comic Book), the PlayStation boss Hiroki Totoki explained that it was so “very difficult” that PS5 will suffer a price cut.

Totoki specifically pointed to the size of the PS5 mold as a reason why Sony would struggle to reduce production costs.

In comparison, this problem did not persist PlayStation 4and that's why Sony managed to reduce the price of the console compared to the next generation.

If the PS5 receives a price cut soon, it could be in conjunction with the release of PS5 “Pro”.

Although Sony has not announced this yet, many reputable sources have stated that an updated version of the PS5 is scheduled to release sometime in 2024.

Given the improved specs over the base version of the PS5, it's expected that the Pro will cost more than the current $499 model.

However, if Sony wanted to keep the PS5's price from rising too much, it could always lower the cost of the base models coinciding with the launch of the PS5 Pro. However, this is just speculation and there is absolutely no guarantee that this will happen.

Even if there's no price cut for the PS5 in the next few months, the current cost of the console doesn't seem to be deterring new buyers.

At this point in its lifecycle, the PS5 continues to fly off the shelves and has surpassed nearly 55 million units sold worldwide. although there are some doubts.

There are no signs of slowing down and more big games are on the horizon (although not very close), Sony can rest easy.
